Signals-Austin's Own Tribute to Rush

For nearly a decade, Sean Behrens has been teaching the classical guitar with the Suzuki Method to young children in the Austin area. Mr. Behrens’ dedication to the Suzuki Method and high standards has made him a leader in Suzuki Guitar teaching in the Central Texas region.

Mr. Behrens holds a Master’s Degree in Guitar Performance from the University of Denver which he received under the tutelage of Ricardo Iznaola and a Bachelors Degree in the same from Colorado State University under the tutelage of Masakazu Ito. In addition, Mr. Behrens has studied with Jonathan Leathwood and David Leisner.

Mr. Behrens has completed Books 1-4 of Suzuki Training and has trained with Frank Longay, Andrea Cannon, Bill Kossler and Dave Madsen. For the last 3 years, Mr. Behrens has been director and founder of the Austin Suzuki Guitar Institute which runs every summer.

Who is “Mr. Sean” Behrens?

•    Education: Bachelor of Music-Colorado State University 1996
                    Master of Music-University of Denver, Lamont School of Music 2001

•    Guitar Studies: Masakazu Ito, Ricardo Iznaola, Jonathan Leathwood, David Leisner

•    Suzuki Studies: Frank Longay, Andrea Cannon, Dave Madsen, Bill Kossler

•    Registered Suzuki teacher with the Suzuki Association of the Americas

•    Founder and Director of the first and only Suzuki Guitar program in Austin, TX

•    Has taught at summer Suzuki institutes, and has given clinics around the country

•    Is a versatile player who specializes in classical guitar and progressive rock

•    Has taught guitar for 16 yrs. Suzuki for 6 years

•    Performs regularly throughout Central Texas with violinist Phil Davidson as the Chanterelle Duo

•    Is a passionate ambassador for the Suzuki philosophy

•    Continues to keep his skills and outlook fresh through participation in regular training and interaction within the Suzuki community.
